Whanganui Gravel Loop and Turoa Scenic Motorcycle Ride

A Whanganui Gravel Loop on the way home was the perfect way to test out the bike after having the front sprocket properly fixed at Courtesy Motorcycles. This was a fun 500km journey that combined gravel roads with some of the most scenic sealed roads in the North Island. The first half of the ride focused on the gravel loop north of Whanganui. I spent time on Rangitatau East Road which is a fast clay based surface before moving onto Kauarapaoa Road. This second stretch was narrower and felt a bit more adventurous which was great since it has been a while since I explored new roads like these. The second half of the trip moved onto the seal as I followed the narrow Whanganui River Road north. I passed the historic Kawana mill and the famous settlement of Jerusalem. Before the sun started going down I took a detour up to the Turoa skifield to check out the mountain views and then made my way home via the Gentle Annie.
