Tucson was beautiful — but van life got hard fast

Ep. 418 - Tucson gave us a little bit of everything in this episode—an amazing free camp spot, beautiful desert scenery, and one of the biggest challenges of van life: extreme heat. We started out at a fantastic BLM camping area just outside the city, where the evening was peaceful, the sunset was beautiful, and a campfire made it feel like the perfect stop. But once the daytime temperatures started climbing, things got a lot more complicated—especially traveling full time in a van with a cat. We still made it out to explore Tohono Chul, one of Tucson’s most beautiful garden spaces, but the heat made it hard to fully enjoy the experience. After that, we found ourselves doing something a lot of van lifers can probably relate to—searching for shade, AC, Wi-Fi, and a place to work. That led us to one of the most underrated van life survival strategies: the public library. In this episode, we share the highs and lows of our time in Tucson, from relaxing evenings at camp and an unexpected “UFO sighting” in the morning sky… to the reality of changing our plans and leaving earlier than expected because the weather just wasn’t working in our favor.
