Entry #17 — Pesechnika Peak · Kaloyanovi Kuli · Mini Cave Buchvata · Kushbonar Forest · ~10km · Sliven This one felt like a proper send-off to the home forest. Peak Pesechnika, Kaloyanovi Kuli, the small cave Buchvata, two water springs and the ancient forest of Kushbonar — hundreds of years old, wild, dense and completely beautiful. I have now explored almost every path Sliven's forest has to offer. That means something to me. The route was mostly ridge walking from the top of the mountain, but at one point I took a shortcut that turned into 200 meters of elevation gain in less than a kilometer through thick forest and bushes. Barely walkable. Ended up on a high rock with a view that made it worth every scratch. Along the way the forest was full of flowers. A few worth mentioning: 🌸 Fritillaria pontica (Понтийски Крем / Pontic Fritillary) — a protected species in Bulgaria under the Biodiversity Act. Please don't pick it. 🌼 Primula veris (Иглика / Cowslip) — not protected, medicinal plant, one of the first signs of spring. 🌿 Cardamine bulbifera (Горска Зъбница / Coralroot Bittercress) — not protected, common forest plant. 🌾 Ranunculus lanuginosus (Вълнест Лютиче / Woolly Buttercup) — not protected, found throughout the forest floor. I am more than happy with this one.
