Entry #19 — Central Balkan · ~30km · 2300m+ D+- · 4 Peaks The plan was 20km. It became almost 30. Happens. Four peaks above 2000 metres — Ambarica/Levski (2166m), Malka Ambarica (2145m), Bezimenen (2017m) and Maluk Kupen (2100m). Me and Christian, over 2300 metres of elevation gain and loss, and almost nobody else out there. The company we did have though — cows, a goat, wild horses and a few really beautiful birds. Not bad at all. What made this one special wasn't just the distance or the elevation. The landscape kept changing the whole way through — deep forest with small waterfalls, open hills, still-snowy peaks, pine forests and a section affected by an old forest fire, quiet and a little eerie in the best way. Not the longest hike I've done. Definitely one of the most varied. Gorgeous. Untamed. Exactly what I needed.
