Quarry Campsite

The Quarry Camping Area (often referred to as the Quarry campsite) is a remote, walk-in bush camping spot tucked into the northern edge of Brisbane Water National Park near Somersby, NSW. It is best known as a basic overnight rest stop for hikers tackling the iconic 250km Great North Walk (specifically the challenging section between Wondabyne Station/Mooney Mooney Creek and Somersby Store). Because of its specific status and location, there are a few unique things you need to know about setting up camp here. The campsite is set in a quiet, flat, sandy clearing surrounded by classic Australian coastal bushland. You'll pitch your tent under a canopy of scribbly gums, native eucalypts, heath, and distinctive grass trees. Because it sits uphill from the Lower Mooney Mooney Dam and just south of the Somersby Reservoir, it feels completely enveloped by nature. It's an incredibly peaceful place to fall asleep to the sound of frogs and wake up to native bird calls, far removed from any highway noise. Camp Amenities (Or Lack Thereof) This is a primitive, leave-no-trace site designed strictly for self-reliant backpackers. You have to carry everything in and everything out. Facilities: There are no toilets, no rubbish bins, and no treated water taps. Water: There is no direct, reliable water source at the clearing. Hikers typically collect water further down the track at Mooney Mooney Creek (which must be treated/boiled before drinking) or push through to the Somersby Store. #CentralCoastBushwalking #hiking
