170 Jahre Hochrheinbahn – Abschied von der Dieseltraktion auf der Hochrheinbahn | SwissRails

On March 15, 2026, the purple-red 218 155 operated with four green coaches as a farewell run for diesel operations on the Hochrhein, running along the Hochrhein Railway. The journey ran from Singen to Basel Bad Bf, after which it shuttled once to Waldshut and back before returning to Singen after a layover. In this video, you can see impressions of this special run as well as the everyday diesel operations, which will end on April 26 as the line is being electrified and will become somewhat quieter in the future. The locomotive used was the mainline diesel locomotive 218 155-0, built in 1971 by Krauss-Maffei. Since its takeover by NeSA in 2017, it has been restored to operational condition and has been running in its purple-red livery around Rottweil since 2018. After a long service life with the Deutsche Bundesbahn and later DBAG, it is now used reliably both in regular freight and work train services as well as on heritage special trains. ◼️ Subtitles / Documentation This video contains written documentation.
