The project covers a total distance of 96.5 km between Gorakhpur Cantt (GKC) and Valmiki Nagar Road (VKNR), with the remaining stretch to Narkatiaganj Junction (NKE) integrating into the broader regional doubling plan. Project Overview This section is part of the vital Gorakhpur–Narkatiaganj–Muzaffarpur route. Once completed, it will eliminate the bottleneck caused by the existing single line, allowing for higher train frequencies and significantly reduced travel times for both passenger and freight traffic Current Status & Key Highlights The doubling is moving in phases to minimize service disruption while maximizing early utility of the tracks: Earthwork & Levelling: Groundwork is most active on the Gorakhpur Cantt – Kaptanganj stretch, with land clearing and soil stabilization currently underway. Bridge Engineering: Construction of the massive Gandak River bridge near Paniahwa is a central focus, as this structure is the most complex engineering feat of the project. Operational Benefits: Doubling this route provides a backup for the heavily congested Gorakhpur–Deoria–Siwan main line, ensuring smoother operations during maintenance or blockages.
