Travel Day Nine - Gnowangerup WA to Gracetown WA: Wine Country at Last!

In this episode The Geordie and the Gragok leave the quiet order of Gnowangerup and heading south into the much more refined surroundings of Gracetown, in the heart of Western Australia’s Margaret River region. The day begins gently, with coffee, a cheese and ham toastie, and a browse through antiques at Broomehill, before lunch in Donnybrook, which—most importantly—features actual flavour for the Gragok. A full ceremonial wash of the car and caravan follows, finally removing the dust and mud earned across the Nullarbor. With only one minor mechanical failure on the entire journey—a single rebellious screw cap—the transition from long-distance touring to something resembling civilisation is refreshingly painless. Gracetown becomes home for the next five days, serving as a base to explore the Margaret River winery region. Wineries, gin tastings, venison, coastal views, lighthouses and Busselton Jetty all feature—along with a lively caravan park packed with school‑holiday energy that stands in sharp contrast to the calm, serene Nullarbor left behind. This episode marks a shift in the journey. The distances shorten, the scenery softens, and the pace slows—not because the trip is ending, but because it’s time to enjoy the reward.
