June 2026 Healthcare Update
This Hospital Systems Addiction Care (HSAC) Community of Practice session provides timely healthcare updates related to substance use care and support in New Hampshire. This session includes updates on naloxone distribution, healthcare workforce initiatives, and a new hospital grant opportunity focused on strengthening comprehensive substance use care and support. Discussion includes new Board of Pharmacy rules allowing naloxone to be distributed directly from hospital emergency departments, effective June 1, 2026. This update removes labeling requirements that had created a long-standing barrier and is intended to expand access to this life-saving overdose reversal medication. Presenters also share information about HealthForce NH, the Giving Care Plan, healthcare workforce challenges in New Hampshire, workforce data and retention efforts, the HealthForce NH Innovation Challenge, and new opportunities to support healthcare workforce development. The session also provides an overview of a new hospital grant opportunity approved by the Governor and Executive Council on June 3, 2026. Discussion includes hospital participation, screening and brief intervention, quality improvement methodology, data collection, sustainability planning, and opportunities for hospitals to improve care for patients with substance use disorder. This recording may be useful for hospital leaders, emergency department teams, pharmacy directors, healthcare workforce partners, substance use treatment providers, recovery support organizations, policymakers, grant partners, and others working to strengthen substance use care and support in New Hampshire.
