~ Sing to YHWH ~

Based on Psalm / Mizmor 113 This composition is inspired by Psalm 113, particularly the words, "From the rising of the sun to its setting, the Name of YHWH is to be praised." The psalm opens with the invitation, "Hallelu Yah (הללו יה)." The Hebrew halelu calls us to lift up, exalt, celebrate, and proclaim YHWH. It is an invitation to turn our hearts and thoughts toward YHWH. The object of the song is YHWH's Shem (Name). In Hebrew, Shem speaks of far more than a spoken name. It encompasses YHWH's identity, character, authority, reputation, covenant steadfastness, justice, mercy, compassion, and everything by which YHWH has chosen to be known. One of my favorite companion passages is found in Yasha'yah 26:8: "Indeed, in the path of Your righteous judgments, O YHWH, we have waited expectantly for You. Your Name and Your remembrance are the longing of our nephesh." While Psalm 113 calls us to lift up the Name of YHWH from the rising of the sun to its setting, Yasha'yah reveals the heart behind that praise: YHWH's Name and remembrance are the deepest longing of our nephesh. May this meditation provide a settled place to rest, to remember, and to place your trust in YHWH, our Rock. ~ Mizmor (Psalm) 113 1 Hallelu Yah! (Lift up, celebrate, exalt, and openly proclaim YHWH.) Praise, O servants of YHWH; lift up and proclaim the Name (Shem-identity, character, authority, reputation, and renown) of YHWH. 2 May the Name of YHWH be blessed from this time forth and forevermore. 3 From the rising (the dawning, shining forth) of the sun to its setting (its going in, the completion of its daily course), the Name of YHWH is continually worthy of praise, exaltation, and joyful proclamation. 4 YHWH is exalted above all nations; YHWH's glory (kabod—weight, honor, splendor, manifested greatness) is above the heavens. 5 Who is like YHWH our Elohim, who dwells on high, 6 yet humbles Himself to behold (to carefully look upon and attend to) the heavens and the earth? 7 YHWH raises the poor (dal - the weak, lowly, and powerless) from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap, 8 to seat them with nobles, with the nobles of YHWH's people. 9 YHWH gives the barren woman a household, making her a joyful mother of children.
