Moses Sings the Song of the Sea
Lyrics adapted from Exodus 15 ~ Moseh's Song of the Sea I will sing to YHWH, for He has risen, yes, risen in exaltation. Horse and rider He has hurled into the Sea. Yah is my strength and my song, and He has become my deliverance. This is my Mighty One, and I will dwell with Him; the Mighty One of my father, and I will exalt Him. YHWH is a man of battle; YHWH is His Name. Pharaoh’s chariots and his host He has cast into the Sea, and the chosen of his officers are sunk in the Sea of Reeds. The depths covered them; they went down into the deep like stone. Your right hand, O YHWH, is glorious in power; Your right hand, O YHWH, shatters the enemy. In the greatness of Your exaltation You overthrow those who rise against You; You send forth Your burning wrath, it consumes them like stubble. At the breath of Your nostrils the waters were piled up, the flowing waters stood firm like a wall, the depths congealed in the heart of the Sea. The enemy said: “I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil, my desire shall be filled upon them. I will draw my sword; my hand shall dispossess them.” You blew with Your breath, the Sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters. Who is like You among the mighty ones, O YHWH? Who is like You, gloriously set-apart, awe-inspiring in praises, doing wonders? You stretched out Your right hand, the earth swallowed them. You led in Your covenantal loyalty the people whom You redeemed; You guided them in Your strength to the dwelling of Your set-apartness. The peoples have heard, they tremble. Terror has seized the inhabitants of Philistia. Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed; the mighty ones of Moab, trembling has taken hold of them. All the inhabitants of Canaan melted away. Fear and dread fall upon them; by the greatness of Your arm they are still as stone, until Your people pass over, O YHWH, until the people whom You have acquired pass over. You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of Your inheritance, the place You have established for Your dwelling, O YHWH, the sanctuary, O YHWH, which Your hands have prepared. YHWH reigns for eternity and beyond. Miriam sings: Sing to YHWH, for He has risen, yes, risen in exaltation; horse and rider He has hurled into the Sea.
