It is controlled from Colthrop Crossing Box and monitored through CCTV, and the crossing keeper there releases slots on the signals over this crossing once proven clear to allow the trains to pass. Trains around this location were going a fair bit slower than usual due to a speed restriction between here and Aldermaston, causing a few extra minutes' delay to each train. Three different lowerings are featured in this video. The first lasted for as long as ten minutes for three trains: one stopper which over-hung across the crossing, and two fast trains. It was so long in part due to the speed restriction, but also the lack of signals on this line as the signals for the level crossings are the only signals around this part of the line. In short, the next level crossing along also has to be proven clear and lowered to give the train a green signal, although there is one intermediate signal between here and Colthrop for London-bound trains. The third lowering features a slightly more interesting catch of a DC Rail Freight Class 60 powering up away from the speed restriction on a run between Willesden and Merehead Quarry, let out of a loop near Aldermaston a few minutes early after allowing the faster trains to pass.
