Wootton Broadmead Level Crossing, Bedfordshire
Date filmed: Monday the 27th of October 2025 / Wednesday the 11th of February / Saturday the 4th of April 2026 Route: Marston Vale Line Between Stewartby (SWR) and Kempston Hardwick (KMH) Stations Crossing type: Manually Controlled Barrier crossing with CCTV (MCB-CCTV) Filming location: Broadmead Road, Stewartby (MK43 9NE) Featuring: @ElectraLevelCrossings A level crossing located between Stewartby and Kempston Hardwick Stations just outside of Stewartby near Bedford. It is one of (at the time of the first and second dates) nine level crossings on this line, but just fifteen nationwide, to still have incandescent / halogen bulb-type wigwag lights. There was also a very rare, flat-disc, early alarm on the Bletchley-Bound side of the crossing, which was a very unusual find at a crossing which only dated back about 20 years in its current form. However, this was replaced between the first two dates of filming, and you can hear its replacement in the later clips. It was believed that it was already starting to fail after only weeks of being in place, likely due to being one of many 'MoFlash' generation alarms to become water-logged. It worsened in the weeks after filming, and a more typical-sounding alarm can be heard in the fifth clip, sadly mostly cut due to an obnoxious racket coming from a car stereo. Overall, little else, if anything at all, has changed here over this crossing's lifespan in its current form, controlled and monitored from the line's dedicated signalling centre at Ridgmont. Unfortunately, the crossing's future seems uncertain with the developments of Universal Studios UK. At the time of publishing, the road is undergoing a lengthy closure until early July, whilst the main access points for construction are fully prepared Trains featured: Lowering 1 (0:00): 150 137 (London Northwestern Railway) - 1:07 - Lowering 2 (1:41): 150 141 (London Northwestern Railway) - 3:00 - Lowering 3 (3:33): 150 137 (London Northwestern Railway) (2) - 4:35 - Lowering 4 (5:04): 150 139 (London Northwestern Railway) - 6:10 - Lowering 5 (6:36): 150 139 (London Northwestern Railway) (2) - 7:45 - End-of-video picture showcase: 8:10 Train details sourced from: Real Time Trains: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/sear...
