From Vision to Visionary – Ballinspittle gets moving for Biodiversity

UN Biodiversity Day 2021, with the theme "We are all part of the solution for nature", was a very appropriate date to launch this uplifting film with the message echoed by Aishling Minihane “We are part of the solution and it feels good”. At a time when the world seemed to stand still and against the backdrop of lockdown, one village started to create a more biodiverse environment. The cohesion of the group has been phenomenal - only a few people knew one another but largely this was the first time meeting for most people and the most unexpected friendships have sprung from it. It is an oasis of support and friendliness. They began to imagine what could be done for their village “My vision for Ballinspittle would be to make it a pollinator haven and a healthier environment for everyone." "There is camaraderie about it and it is good for us. It is all different generations participating and change can happen" said Dinny. Pat, a more long-term member of the group - “we are more conscious now of being wild and diverse”. We hope it inspires many others to become more aware of what nature needs and become the solution too in their own villages, towns and communities across Cork and the country.
