The Large Heritage Rich Garden

Cork Environmental Forum, with support from Cork City Council and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage are delighted to invite you to view this series of informative videos. "How to Invite Biodiversity Into Your Urban Garden" introduces us into 6 very different gardens in Cork City and explores how nature is nurtured and encouraged in these spaces. Renovated and reclaimed after a flood in 2012, Deborah McGuire shows Roisín and Darragh around her large heritage rich garden. With mature trees and small river flowing through the land, we see the great variety and diversity of habitats that such a unique space can offer. Shaded by trees, the slow flowing river encourages fish and bird-life. Herons, hedgehogs, otters, badgers are all great signs of a healthy habitat. And having the space to allow dead standing wood benefits so much wildlife – encouraging fungus and insects and birds.
