Pentecoste A - Quella vita nuova che scorre in noi

Pentecost was a feast in which the Israelites celebrated the gift of the Torah, the Word of God. With the gift of the Spirit, we understand, then, that God has not only left us His Word, His law, His will, but has also given us the strength and inner grace to welcome and live it. We could not do this alone. The Gospel, however, places the descent of the Spirit on the evening of Easter Day itself: it is the Spirit of the Risen One that is given to us, the presence, the light, the love of God that expands within us spaces of resurrection and life, freeing us from death until we become one with Christ. A gift that sets us in motion, calls us to mission in the world, asks us to be a sign of life and consolation in everyday situations. The experience of the Spirit, in fact, occurs in everyday life, as Karl Rahner states: we simply have to let it happen "beneath the hustle and bustle of our daily lives" and allow it to challenge "the obvious and the habits of our routine."
