III Domenica Quaresima A - Il Dio innamorato, che ha sete delle nostre arsure

The journey to Samaria, where Jesus stops wearily at Jacob's well and meets a Samaritan woman, contains beautiful details that take us to the heart of salvation history: it is, in fact, the journey of Jesus, the Son sent by God the Father, toward a humanity that has broken the covenant with its Spouse and devoted itself to other idols. Like a God in love, Jesus sits at the well where so many lovers had met and come to know each other, to woo humanity anew and give it the living water of his love, a water that quenches forever, becoming a spring within us. It happens at the hour when we are weary and tired, at midday, just as at midday Jesus on the cross will once again say, "I thirst." And from his side will flow that water of his Spirit promised to the Samaritan woman. For every midday of our burning, thirsting, and toil, there is a God in love who seeks us, enters into our thirst, and shows himself thirsting for us. And if we welcome Him, we can abandon our old pitcher: the water of His love becomes a spring within us. And it is already Easter.
