Norway lost a quarter of its fleet in a single night. And without firing a single shot. In this film, I recount how Norway's most modern frigate, the Helge Ingstad, sank in a calm fjord on November 8, 2018, despite neither storm nor enemy presence. I show why the loss of one ship out of just five meant the immediate disappearance of 20 percent of the country's entire combat fleet, and how the tempting philosophy of the perfect fleet was born, but proved to be a trap. We'll explore the billion-dollar defeats of American destroyers, including the $4 billion Zumwalt with its silent guns and the Constellation frigate; the Chinese shipbuilding race, in which Beijing surpassed 370 vessels; and the astonishing triumph of Ukraine's Magura V5 naval drones, costing between $250,000 and $300,000 each, over the mighty Black Sea Fleet. Finally, I come face to face with the most important question: what kind of fleet is Poland building today, with three Miecznik frigates and three Saab A26 submarines just off Kaliningrad, and how much a single mistake can cost.
