Neu in Schleswig-Holstein: Stadler FLIRT Akku Triebwagen zwischen Kiel Hbf und Kiel-Oppendorf

Starting October 1, 2023, battery electric multiple units (BEMUs) of type Stader FLIRT Akku were put into service in Schleswig-Holstein (most northern federal state of Germany). They are first used on regional train line (Regionalbahn) RB 76 between Kiel Hauptbahnhof (Hbf) und Kiel-Oppendorf. The BEMUs have 3 bogies, the first one driven, the 2nd and 3rd non-driven, so the overall wheel arrangement is Bo'2'2'. They have been put into class 526 and 826 for the non-driven section. Their length is 45.7 meters, maximum speed is 160 km/h, traction power is 2 x 500 kW. They can run either with electric power from overhead wires or from the batteries. Batteries can be recharged when the unit is running or standing under overhead wires. So far Schleswig-Holstein has ordered 55 units. Regional line RB 76 is operated by the company erixx.
