How one Icelandic Sheep becomes beautiful yarn Tour de Fleece

Follow the journey of one beautiful Icelandic sheep fleece from pasture to finished handspun yarn. One year ago, this wool was still out in the pasture on Mory, one of our favorite Icelandic sheep. Today, it’s on my spinning wheel! In this episode of our Tour de Fleece challenge, we’re following the complete journey of one very special fleece. From the initial shearing and washing to carding it into roving and finally spinning it into beautiful yarn, you'll see every step of the process. I also share a few of the "real life" homestead hurdles, like a broken spinning wheel drive string and the struggle with those tiny wool neps! Whether you’re a fellow spinner or just love seeing the transformation of raw wool, I hope you enjoy this look at the sustainable beauty of Icelandic sheep fiber. What's in this video: Meeting Mory and seeing her unique "Moret" gray color. Footage of the shearing process from earlier this spring. Washing and prepping the raw fleece. Drum carding 100g roving balls (real-time dizzing!). Spinning on the EEW 6.1 e-spinner and my traditional wheel. The final reveal of the 180-yard skeins. Thanks for following along with our natural rainbow journey, one sheep at a time!
