Film Overview Production: Nichiei Science Film Production Co., Ltd. Planning: Saitama Prefecture Shingashi River Comprehensive Flood Control Office 1988, Color, 36 minutes Rain that falls on the northern part of the Musashino Plateau seeps underground and collects as groundwater. Combined with irrigation water from the Iruma River (Sasai Weir), it forms the source of the Akama River. This Akama River changes its name to the Shingashi River near the Hachiman Bridge in Uenoda-cho, Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture, and this point marks the origin of the Shingashi River. The Shingashi River has repeatedly flooded its basin. The Shingashi River Diversion Channel was constructed to prevent these floods. The diversion channel is 1.2 km long, has a drainage basin area of 106 km², and was designated and implemented in 1986 as a Class 1 river in the Arakawa River system. This film documents the construction process of the Shingashi River Diversion Channel. This project conveys the history of flood control measures in the region and the importance of river management that contributes to the safety, security, and recreation of residents.
