Fiat G.91 PAN in action: A Timeless Classic Soars at Frecce Tricolori's 65th Anniversary in Rivolto!
Back from a nice weekend at Rivolto Air Base in Italy, home of the Frecce Tricolori aerobatic display team, where an air show was held to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Italian Pattuglia Acrobatica Nazionale. Crews from all over Europe performed in the skies above the airport, interspersed with solo displays of modern and historic aircraft. What I was most looking forward to was the flight display of the Fiat G.91 with PAN livery, a recently restored example of the classic fighter jet and the only functioning G.91 in the world. The G.91 was build and developed by the Italian aircraft manufacturer Fiat Aviazione (later renamed Aeritalia) from the mid-1950s. Fiat Aviazione won a competition launched by NATO in 1953 for the production of a new light tactical support aircraft. It entered service in 1958 and it was retired in 1995 after being used mainly by the German Luftwaffe, the Italian Air Force and the Portuguese Air Force. It was a lightweight, subsonic tactical ground attack aircraft, designed for both simplicity and agility, powered by a single Bristol Siddeley Orpheus 803 turbojet which was able to produce 22.2 kN of thrust. Many variants of the aircraft were created but certainly the most famous was the G.91 PAN. This was a modified version of the pre-series G.91, lightened by depriving them of the war equipment and than equipped with a smoke generator system in order to be used by the Frecce Tricolori national aerobatic team from 1964 until its replacement by the Aermacchi MB-339PAN in 1982. The example you see in this video is an original Fiat G.91R from the 2º Stormo which mainly carried out reconnaissance activities during its life. It was the only G.91 on Italian soil still capable of being recovered from its hibernation of over 30 years. After a meticulous restoration that required a complete disassembly and reassembly with the replacement of various parts with more modern ones and some components taken from another G.91, the project was quickly completed thanks also to the Italian Air Force itself, ahead of the centenary celebrations in 2023. This G.91 was finally painted with the historic PAN livery, specifically the number 10 of Gian Battista G.B. Molinaro, the last solo pilot of the Frecce Tricolori in the last year of use of this aircraft in 1981. 0:00 Engine Start Up & Checks 1:51 Taxiing for Takeoff 6:03 Takeoff 7:06 Flight Display 11:48 Landing w/ Drag Chute 13:15 Taxiing & Parking 14:56 Engine Shutdown #FiatG91 #FiatG91PAN #FrecceTricolori ------------------------------------------------------------------- You can also find and follow me on: Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/19bozzy92/ Facebook: / 19bozzy92yt Instagram: / ste19bozzy92 Event: 65th Anniversary Frecce Tricolori 2025 Camcorder: Canon Legria GX10, Zoom F3 + Shure SM137-LC Where: Rivolto Air Base, Italy Link To My Main Channel: / 19bozzy92 THANKS FOR WATCHING AND SUBSCRIBE!!!
