Movimientos migratorios en Uruguay en los últimos años: ¿Qué gana y qué pierde nuestro país?
Have you ever stopped to think about how many migratory movements are happening in Uruguay simultaneously? One very noticeable example is the number of immigrants from Central America and the Caribbean who have been arriving in our country in recent years. Another is the thousands of Argentinians who, since 2020, have decided to settle here, mainly in the eastern part of the country. And there are also Uruguayans leaving. For example, more than two thousand people have chosen to move to Argentinian border cities like Gualeguaychú and Concordia to take advantage of the exchange rate difference with Uruguay. At the same time, many compatriots are choosing other countries to live and work in. In 2022, more people left Uruguay than entered, resulting in a negative balance and reversing trends from previous years. Teresa suggested reviewing these population phenomena and discussing: what does Uruguay gain and what does it lose as a result? The Wednesday Roundtable with Miguel Brechner, Teresa Herrera, Agustín Iturralde, and Desireé Pagliarini.
