In a press conference, Julieta Sierra, a representative from the Movement for Popular Participation (MPP), asserted that the National Party, the Colorado Party, and independents prioritized "petty" partisan interests over improving the population's living conditions. "The important thing here is that this benefits the people. The passage of an Accountability Bill is not a victory for the Broad Front or the government. It's a victory for the citizens, and that's what we want: to improve the living conditions of our people. That's why we're here. And I wish we all had the same attitude of wanting to improve the living conditions of our people above political squabbles and partisan pettiness." For his part, Representative Joaquín Sequeira, also of the MPP, wrote on his social media: “If the opposition doesn't provide the votes for the Accountability Bill, we'll lose 300 new police positions and their equipment; 100 million pesos for scholarships at the University of the Republic; the VAT discount on materials for housing cooperatives; and most importantly, the funds for early childhood development with a direct impact on reducing poverty among children aged 0 to 3.” “How far are they willing to pull the strings?” the representative concluded.
