APIYO GS DEFENDS GUMIN MIZE AFTER ASSAM POLICE ARREST IN BIHPURIA UNDER MULTIPLE BNS SECTIONS

BIHPURIA: The Bihpuria Police in Assam have arrested Gumin Mize, 43, a resident of Arunachal Pradesh, in connection with Bihpuria P.S. Case No. 72/2026 registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. According to police, the arrest was made on May 20, 2026, at around 10:30 PM with assistance from Arunachal Pradesh Police. Gumin Mize, son of late Tagang Mize, is a permanent resident of Sibut village under Pasighat Police Station in East Siang district and was reportedly residing temporarily at Mowk II under Itanagar in Papum Pare district. Police stated that on May 15 at Sesa Rajgarh near the Arunachal-Assam border, Mize along with 12–15 accomplices allegedly entered the residence of Rupam Kakoti, assaulted family members, and fired five rounds targeting Kakoti. During the operation, police recovered one .22 rifle, one .22 revolver, and a Bolero vehicle without a number plate. The case has been registered under Sections 329(1), 329(2), 117(1), 117(2), 109, 312, 324, 74, and 3(5) of the BNS, along with Sections 27(1) and 27(2) of the Arms Act. Police said the arrest was necessary as the accused was specifically named in the FIR, and investigators feared he could abscond, tamper with evidence, or influence witnesses. Authorities also claimed that prima facie evidence had been collected during the investigation. Meanwhile, APIYO GS Tapor Mayaing addressed the media regarding the case and claimed that all allegations against Gumin Mize are false. He stated that Mize had fired his licensed revolver strictly in self-defence and urged the public not to spread misinformation regarding the incident. Gumin Mize is the president of Arunachal Anti-Drug Warriors. He has been remanded to judicial custody, while further investigation is underway.
