Claire Broke The Mower… So Lionel Had To Fix It

Somebody — naming no names (Claire) — broke the mower. So, armed with a manual, a diagram, some string that was definitely not rope, and a level of confidence that may or may not have been justified, we decided to fix it ourselves. Meanwhile, Claire gets the first coat of paint onto the office walls and starts marking out the panelling properly, which reveals a few electrical “boo-boos” before the electrician arrives. There is also a suspiciously elaborate lunch, a cucumber salad with slightly more chilli than planned, Lionel getting emotional about crispy potatoes, and a mower test that causes at least one life to flash before one pair of eyes. It’s a day of small victories, questionable ideas, good food, hot weather, and the usual amount of gentle marital supervision.
