POL-KLE: Kevelaer - Serious traffic accident on the B 9 in Wetten / one woman killed, eight other people injured, some seriously Kevelaer (ots) - On Monday (April 20, 2026) at approximately 4:18 p.m., a serious traffic accident occurred in Kevelaer-Wetten on the B9 (Gelder Dyck), in which one woman was killed and eight other people were injured, some seriously. A 70-year-old woman from Goch was driving her Mini towards Geldern when, for reasons still unknown, she collided with a VW driven by a 31-year-old woman from Kleve, who was traveling in the opposite direction. Despite resuscitation efforts, the Mini driver died at the scene. The 31-year-old was seriously injured. A taxi (VW van) with six passengers was traveling behind the Mini and was unable to brake in time, colliding with the Mini. The occupants of the taxi (four women aged 31, 36, 40, and 58, and two men aged 41 and 61) as well as the 44-year-old driver were taken to hospitals. The extent of their injuries is not yet known, but none are in life-threatening condition. The accident investigation is currently being supported by a traffic accident investigation team from the Essen Police Headquarters. The police victim support unit is handling the notification and support of the relatives and first responders. The B9 remains completely closed. (sp)
