$600 OLDS 455 SWAPPED 1976 Pontiac Ventura Will It Run?

This abandoned 1976 Pontiac Ventura has been sitting since 1998, and today we’re finding out whether its surprise Oldsmobile 455 swap will run, drive, stop, and survive its first trip back onto a public road in 28 years. We dragged this forgotten Pontiac out of a garden where it had been sitting among the peppers and tomatoes. Under the hood, we discovered that someone had swapped in an Olds 455, welded homemade engine mounts to the crossmember, installed a tiny two-barrel carburetor, and left us plenty of questionable wiring to investigate. After discovering that the original points ignition wasn’t cooperating, we swapped in an HEI distributor and finally brought the big 455 back to life. From there, the Ventura needed a radiator, thermostat, fresh oil, transmission fluid, fuel-system repairs, exhaust welding, and a new master cylinder before we could attempt its first drive since 1998. Will the brakes work? Will the transmission shift? Will the Olds 455 have enough power to do a burnout?
