The Internet Said This Would Fix Our Chevelle's Electric A/C?!
Can keyboard duster refrigerant make a cheap electric A/C kit blow colder? Our 1972 Chevelle was only producing vent temperatures around 60°F, so we put R152a refrigerant to a real-world test. After several viewers suggested replacing the R134a with R152a from keyboard duster cans, we evacuated the system, pulled a proper vacuum, let it sit for 24 hours, checked the pressures, and took the Chevelle out for a real-world road test. The result was approximately 50°F at the vents, roughly 10 degrees colder than what we had been seeing with R134a. That is definitely an improvement, but it is not the miracle cure some people claimed it would be. So, is keyboard duster the secret to ice-cold electric A/C? We’re calling this one PLAUSIBLE. This electric A/C project is far from finished. The next phase will include a larger condenser, a bigger condenser fan, shorter A/C hoses, and eventually a higher-output alternator. We’re giving this inexpensive electric air conditioning system every possible chance to survive the Texas heat. What should we change next: the condenser, fan, hoses, or alternator?
