UPDATE 11 - BRIBIE ISLAND RESTORATION DRONE UPDATES | we see new growth happening
Hey everyone, welcome back to the channel. This update has a bit of everything — wildlife, new plant growth, a rare mullet spawning moment, and more changes out on the bar. If you spot anything in the footage or have ideas for future updates, drop a comment below. I only saw the wallaby once this week, wandering the shoreline after those big night‑time high tides. It looked healthy and was doing its usual search for food along the debris line. We’re also seeing fresh new growth across the island. With all the rain we’ve had — and are still getting — the sand is full of nutrients, and it shows. You’ll see in the footage that the team was out checking the plants, watering, and fertilising. Great signs for the revegetation. Now for something special. Because it’s mullet season, I managed to capture a moment that almost never gets recorded — mullet spawning inside the Pumicestone Passage. Normally mullet spawn offshore in open ocean, not in shallow estuarine waterways like this. The Passage isn’t a recognised spawning ground, and mullet usually just pass through on their way out to Moreton Bay. But this week, they spawned right in front of me. I’ve been told this is extremely rare, and there’s no published evidence showing mullet regularly spawn inside the Passage. So it was pretty incredible to witness and film. You’ll also see the mullet boats at Kings Beach with a solid haul — a good reminder of how big these schools can be. And on the south side of the bar, I spotted another mullet crew with boats and a truck in an area that’s actually restricted due to the new dredged sand and revegetation. Word is they were fined by fisheries for being there. And finally, the bar has shifted again. It’s now shaped almost like a runway, narrowing to a single point with just one way in and out. There’s also a deep channel forming on the inside of the light tower — definitely something to keep an eye on. Thanks for watching Thanks for watching, hope you enjoy and don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for future updates!
