ADF 015 - Shapes vs Curves

Hi, I’m Delores, and welcome to Affinity Designer: Weekly Fundamentals. This is lesson ADF-015, Shape vs Curve Explained. In this lesson, I explain the difference between shapes and curves and why that distinction matters as you work. Knowing when an object is still a shape versus when it’s a curve affects how editable it is and what tools you can use. This understanding becomes especially important in illustration, pattern design, and lettering. Each lesson in this series focuses on one clear skill or concept and is intentionally short and approachable. You can watch in order, jump around, or return to specific topics as needed. By the end of the year, every lesson will be listed individually so you can easily find exactly what you’re looking for. If I finish recording faster than the weekly pace, I’ll also share a central index for easy reference. I’m sharing this series on YouTube because I want new and curious Affinity Designer users to feel welcome and supported. If you’re already part of my membership, feel free to ignore anything that sounds promotional and simply use these lessons as a reference library. New lessons are posted weekly.
