Why Do We Have Dark Thoughts As We Re-regulate?

They happen because the body is processing old, stored material, and the mind is trying to make sense of unfamiliar sensations using past experiences. This often leads to thoughts about meaninglessness, fear, or losing control, but these are temporary states, not reality. The mind and body work together, so when the nervous system is dysregulated, thinking becomes distorted. As sensations become stronger and more noticeable, the brain tries to explain them, often in a negative or extreme way. These thoughts are not the cause of the experience but a reaction to what is happening in the body as it recalibrates and reorganizes. At a deeper level, this process involves the old sense of identity starting to loosen while previously suppressed emotions and parts of the self come back into awareness. This can feel destabilizing, but it is actually part of becoming more whole.
