The LORD of hosts says: “I have given you this commandment so that my covenant with Levi may endure forever. 5. My covenant with Levi is a covenant of life and peace. I gave it to him so that he might fear me. He feared me and dreaded my name. 6. The law of truth was in his mouth, and there was no injustice on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness and turned many from their sin. 7. The lips of the priest must keep knowledge, and people must seek the law from his mouth. The priest For you are the angels of the LORD of hosts. 8. You have departed from the right path and cause many to go against the law. I, the LORD of hosts, say: You have broken the covenant of Levi. 9. Because you did not keep my ways and gave an edge to men when you practiced the law, I also caused you to be despised and mistreated before all the people. 10. Do we not have one Father? Are we not made by one God? Why do each of us act falsely toward his brother and dishonor the covenant of our ancestors? 11. Judah practiced falsehood and committed abominable acts in Israel and Jerusalem; Judah dishonored the holiness that the LORD loves by marrying the daughter of a foreign god. 12. The LORD will cut off from among the tents of Jacob those who belong to the one who does this, whether they are the breakers or the answerers, and even those who offer sacrifices to the LORD of hosts. 13. You also do these things: tears and weeping and You cover the altar of the LORD with groans. Therefore the LORD will no longer look upon your offerings, nor will he accept them from your hands with pleasure. 14. You say, “Why is this?” For the LORD is a witness between you and the wife you took in your youth.
