While Nebuzaradan, the commander, was carrying the captives of Jerusalem and Judah to Babylon, Jeremiah also was taken captive and bound in chains. When he was released in Ramah, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah. 2. The commander called Jeremiah and said, “The LORD your God has declared this calamity in this place. 3. The LORD has done as He said, because you have sinned against the LORD and have not obeyed His voice; now it has come to pass. This has come upon you. 4. Behold, I unchain your hands today and set you free. If you are willing to go with me to Babylon, let us go; I will treat you kindly. But if you are not willing to go with me to Babylon, leave. Behold, the whole land is before you; go wherever you think it is right, wherever you think it is right.” 5. Before Jeremiah had turned back, he said again, “You [are] to the king of Babylon [to] the cities of Judah "Go back to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, grandson of Shaban, whom you have appointed in charge, and live with him among the people, or go to the place you deem right," said the commander, giving him provisions and gifts and sending him off. 6.
