The Bells of Northwold, Norfolk
This video is dedicated to the memory of Nick Pope (1965 - 2026). A tribute and short biography of his life and work can be found here:- https://www.olliewatson.co.uk/ufology... St Andrew's church in Northwold, Norfolk, holds a ring of eight bells. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th were cast in 1818 by William Dobson of Downham Market. The ring was augmented to eight in 1871 with the addition of three new bells, the treble, 5th and tenor, cast by John Warner & Sons. There is record of a peal bring rung on six bells, prior to the 1871 augmentation, which suggest there were six Dobson bells, five of which remain today. The bells hang in an 1871 timber frame for eight, which was installed at the time of the 1871 augmentation. The tenor weighs 14-3-20cwt and is tuned to E. The bells are rung from an upstairs ringing chamber, and are very odd-struck. As you will see, I was struggling to 'tame' the 7th! 8 bells, 14-3-20cwt in E.
