Built in 686? Exploring St Nicholas Church, Feltwell | Saxon Origins & Hidden History

Step inside St Nicholas Church, Feltwell—a remarkable historic church with origins dating back to around 686 AD. In this video, we explore this unique and often overlooked building, uncovering its Saxon beginnings, Norman reconstruction, and later medieval additions. From Victorian oil lamps hanging in the nave to a surviving Norman pillar and a medieval stone coffin, every part of the church reveals a different layer of its long history. We also take a look at the remains of the tower, which collapsed in the 19th century, and the Saxon base that still survives today. Outside, the church’s position on raised ground hints at its importance in the landscape before the surrounding Fens were drained. Located just a few miles from RAF Lakenheath, this ancient church sits in a landscape that blends over 1,300 years of history with the modern world. At the end of the video, I meet a local resident whose family has lived here for generations—sharing incredible old photographs and stories connected to the church and village. 📍 Location: Feltwell, Norfolk #StNicholasChurch #Feltwell #NorfolkHistory #SaxonChurch #MedievalChurch #HiddenHistory #BritishHistory #HistoricChurch #AncientHistory #ChurchExploration #UKHistory #NorfolkUK #HistoricEngland #ExploringHistory #HauntsandJauntsAdventures 🌐 Follow me on social media: 📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hauntsandja... 🎬TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@hauntsandjaun... ☕️If you would like to support my adventures you can buy me a coffee here: https://buymeacoffee.com/Hauntsandjau...
