Audio: Erin Caters at Aylsham, Norfolk

Recorded in 1977 by F Nolan Golden, this touch of Erin Caters was rung ''to order'' at a moment's notice by members of the Cambridge University Guild on tour. My thanks to ‪@msknight5‬ for her help in restoring an original 1970's vinyl, Bells of the Norwich Diocese, from which this audio is taken. Recorded by F Nolan Golden in 1977. Photographs taken during the restoration of the bells in 2023. Things are not all 'plain sailing' when it comes to the 2023 restoration of the bells. When seven of the ten bells were found to be cracked, advice was sought and the recommendations given from the Norwich Diocesan Bell Advisor were to accept an offer given to the project to replace the existing ring of ten with a far superior ring, transferred from another tower. Initially, the bells from Cleator Moor were offered, and this was declined by the church. This was then countered with an offer of the spectacular bells from Paisley, which would have fit at Aylsham with minimal alterations. This offer was, again, rejected. The faculty application for the welding of the cracked seven bells was subsequently rejected, and sent back for further consideration of the replacement ring. This was again rejected, and the cracked bells were welded and the bells rehung, against the advice of the Diocesan Bells Advisor. Subsequently, further grants to the project from the Norwich Diocesan Association were withdrawn. In addition to the disquiet caused by the restoration of the existing bells, further problems arose due to safeguarding concerns surrounding the tower captain's conduct towards a ringer at the tower (and visitors to the tower), following a series of safeguarding failures and wrongdoings in the Diocese of Norwich, and problems involving two ringers at the tower.
