Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman displayed a warm moment during a dialogue with approximately 150 Papuan students at an event with the Indonesian Papuan Students Association in Jakarta. On that occasion, Amran received coffee from a plantation managed by the Papuan students and encouraged them to continue developing the agricultural sector in their home region. During the dialogue, Minister Amran initiated the "Back to Gardening Movement" as an effort to build the Papuan economy based on local potential. He encouraged young Papuans to utilize their family land to develop various superior commodities, such as sweet potatoes, coffee, nutmeg, sago, cocoa, and livestock. According to Amran, developing the agricultural sector not only increases productivity but also opens up opportunities for young people to become job creators in their own regions. As a form of support, the Ministry of Agriculture is providing an additional five hectares of land for Papuan students, who already manage seven hectares of agricultural land. Furthermore, the government is preparing to develop a 100-hectare coffee plantation for young farmers in the Papua Highlands region. On this occasion, Amran expressed his appreciation to the Papuan students who have started agricultural activities and encouraged them to continue their efforts. "So I'm giving you an additional 5 hectares. Keep fighting, dear. Yes, go ahead. You must succeed," said Minister of Agriculture Amran, as quoted on the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture's YouTube channel, Thursday (July 2, 2026). This land development program is expected to strengthen the role of Papua's younger generation in developing superior regional commodities while simultaneously encouraging economic growth through the agricultural sector.
