Severn Valley Railway - Autumn Steam Gala 2025 - 19-20/09/25

The Severn Valley Railway's annual Autumn Steam Gala event for 2025 sees the railway celebrating 60 years of preservation, with a number of debut guest locomotives running alongside the railway's home fleet. The event also marks the first major gala at the railway since reopening of the line between Hampton Loade and Bridgnorth, following completion of repairs to a severe landslip at the start of the year. Headlining the event was Rebuilt Merchant Navy Class 35006 'Peninsular & Oriental SN Co.', making a seldom seen appearance away from her home of the Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Steam Railway, and marking the first Merchant Navy to visit the line. With 35006's boiler ticket due to end in October, the weekend gave many a final chance to see the Bulleid Pacific in action. Alongside the Bulleid Merchant was another southern region guest, BR Standard 5MT 73082 'Camelot', making her first visit to the Severn Valley Railway. Also making its debut at the SVR was LMS 3F Jinty 47298 from the East Lancashire Railway Railway, being the first Jinty to run the line since 2012. The Severn Valley's own 3F Jinty, 47383, was on display at Kidderminster station over the weekend. The event would additionally see the return of Port Talbot Railway Saddle Tank 813, which has been out of action since 2022, with the saddle tank temporarily running as NCB Backworth Colliery No.11, credentials she carried after her sale to the NCB in 1950 until her sale to the 813 Preservation Fund in 1967. No.11 was also reunited with former shed mate RSH Hunslet Austerity Tank NCB No.49, which too was based at Backworth from 1952. No.11 and the various guest locomotives would be complemented with the rest of the Severn Valley's operational home fleet, with GWR Hall Class 4930 'Hagley Hall' and LMS Stanier Mogul 13268 taking charge of the overnight running on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning.
