We Drove Deep Into The Mountains Looking For THIS

Today we’re heading deep into the mountains of Vancouver Island on a mission that’s been unfinished for far too long. Months ago we attempted to reach the wreckage of a World War II-era aircraft that crashed high in the backcountry, but snow, mechanical problems, and rough terrain forced us to turn around before we could make it. This time we’re back, and Tyla is behind the wheel of her built 3rd Gen Toyota 4Runner to see if we can finally make it all the way to the crash site. What starts as a simple off-road adventure quickly turns into a real test for the 4Runner. Steep climbs, technical terrain, and an overheating transmission threaten to end the trip before it really begins. But after coming this far, there was only one option: keep pushing higher into the mountains. Hidden among the trees lies the wreckage of a 1944 RCAF Lockheed Ventura bomber that crashed into this mountain during a training flight. More than 80 years later, pieces of the aircraft still remain scattered across the mountainside, creating one of the most fascinating and sobering historical sites we’ve ever explored.
