They’re HERE… My First Chickens + Spring Garden Prep

The chickens has landed, I repeat the chickens have landed. Fifteen Cornish Cross chicks were hand delivered almost a week ago and I have been figuring it out ever since! If you watched our last video we got the brooder set up for them and I can't believe I'm saying this but they've almost outgrown it! I knew they were bred to grow quick but I wasn't anticipating just how quick that was! From getting the right temperature to keeping their water bucket clear of pine shavings they have had me running back and forth for days worried over them. I feel like we're getting close to them being more self sufficient but until those feathers come in, I am Mama hen! A reminder to everyone these are meat birds, we will have them for about 8 weeks and then they will be processed and go to feeding us and family. I hope I can provide them with a wonderful life and fill them with good nutrients so they can then nourish us! I absolutely love trying something new. Who knows if this will be the first and only time I raise chickens or if I've found my next hyper fixation interest! Anyways if chickens aren't your thing, I'm also getting the garden going because honey the weather is fabulous these days. I'm already seeing the chill creeping back, but hey that's Spring in the mountains. I was talking to my manager at work about all of the things I get up to outside of the computer and for some folks the country life just isn't it. I reflect regularly on how I ended up here. I spent my childhood focused on getting to the city, the noise, the lights, the social circles. Now, the birds are my friends, the silence fulfills me, and I experience a darkness allowing me to look up into the sky and see just how big our universe is. Anyways, I am loving this slow life and getting back to my roots...literally. Much love, Sarah and Zach
