30 JUNE AFTERMATH | Zimbabwe and Lesotho Step Up Repatriation Efforts | Part 16 l July 7, 2026
South Africa's repatriation programme continues as more foreign nationals wait outside Home Affairs offices in Durban for transport to processing centres. Many people remain on pavements and in open areas while awaiting buses, highlighting the logistical and humanitarian challenges facing the ongoing operation. Meanwhile, Zimbabwean officials have acknowledged that many returning citizens may face economic challenges upon their return, including limited employment opportunities. In contrast, Lesotho has announced measures to assist its returning citizens. Authorities have deployed buses to transport Basotho nationals from Bloemfontein and stated that they will help eligible returnees obtain national identity documents where needed and connect them with government support programmes, including employment assistance. In this edition of Mzansi Citizen, we examine: The latest developments in Durban. Zimbabwe's response to returning citizens. Lesotho's reintegration plans. The progress of regional repatriation efforts. What are your views on the future of immigration policy in South Africa and the wider region? Share your thoughts respectfully in the comments.
