Tough Labour Enforcement Begins as Epping Closes | Part 14 l July 6, 2026

South Africa's post-30 June immigration operations continue as the Epping processing centre in Cape Town closes while new arrivals are still being reported outside the facility. Officials are directing eligible individuals to the appropriate processing centres as repatriation operations continue. The continued arrivals have created logistical and humanitarian challenges, with some people waiting outside the closed facility for further instructions. At the same time, authorities have announced tougher enforcement of labour and immigration laws. Employers found to be hiring people in violation of South Africa's immigration and labour legislation may face substantial financial penalties and other legal consequences, depending on the applicable law and the outcome of investigations. Government says the increased enforcement is intended to strengthen compliance, protect the integrity of the labour market, and ensure that employers follow immigration and employment regulations.
