Front Splits on the Reformer
One of the best stretches in all of Pilates—Front Splits! This exercise requires a ton of balance in the standing position and is a tremendous stretch for the hips. I noticed I got my words mixed up when explaining the standing version and said, "it's not important to straighten the BACK leg, when I meant it's not important to straighten the FRONT leg. It's very important to straighten the back leg as best you can—that's what moves the carriage! Remember it's not about getting both legs straight. It's about lengthening the spine and staying square. SPRING: 2 outside springs, or 2 medium springs if not on classical equipment (option to use a sticky pad against shoulder block) REPETITIONS: 3 repetitions standing, 3 repetitions kneeling Maintain a level pelvis Move the carriage by stretching the back leg out in the standing split Try not to lower the front heel as the carriage moves Push the heel back to initiate movement of the carriage in the kneeling split and keep pressing the heel back as the carriage comes in Lengthen the spine throughout --- Thanks for watching!
