The Big Beautiful Burl - Woodturning

Turning a MASSIVE walnut burl bowl from a burl I spotted in a hardwood store in Ohio—and this one fought back. 😅 In this build, I use traditional woodturning techniques to rough-shape the blank, then I stabilize the burl in resin to lock down punky areas and strengthen the figure. After that, I chase down a few nasty cracks and fill them with epoxy resin before bringing the whole piece to a glassy finish. The final surface is dialed in with Yorkshire Grit Woodturner’s Abrasive, and the walnut grain in this burl is just unreal—curl, eyes, movement… the kind of wood that makes you stop mid-sanding and just stare. If you’re into big bowls, burls, resin stabilization, crack repair, and clean finishing, you’re in the right place.
