Sarfaranga Desert Skardu | Exploring Pakistan’s Cold Desert

Located at an elevation of 7,500 feet in the Shigar District, along the route to Shigar Valley, Sarfaranga Cold Desert is one of the most unique natural attractions in Gilgit-Baltistan. This remarkable landscape showcases nature's diversity, where vast golden sand dunes are framed by towering mountains, while the mighty Indus River flows nearby. The serenity of the desert, especially during sunset from the crest of the dunes, creates a truly breathtaking and unforgettable experience. Sarfaranga is also home to the annual Sarfaranga Cold Desert Jeep Rally, held in the world's highest cold desert to promote adventure tourism and support the local economy of this remote region. Beyond the thrilling races, the festival offers a range of cultural and recreational activities, including freestyle polo, boating, river rafting, traditional sword dances, musical performances, and rock climbing. Each year, the event attracts more than 100 jeep racers and bikers, including an increasing number of female participants.
