61306 Mayflower and Hastings DEMU Head to Paignton: Torbay and English Riviera Express - 2026

A short trip to the English Riviera for the day. This is the first of two Steam Dreams tours to Kingswear of 2026; this one hauled by LNER Thompson B1, 61306 Mayflower. At the same time, Hastings DEMU was on a tour of its own to Paignton. The DEMU had come from Hastings in Kent. The Torbay Express left London Waterloo in the early hours of the morning, and ran diesel hauled to Taunton, where the B1 took over to Kingswear. The two tours would run within 2 minutes of each other through Dawlish; the DEMU being signal checked by the B1. Upon arrival into Kingswear, 61306 shunted the consist into the sidings, and headed to Churston for a spin on the turntable and a service. Resident Dartmouth Steam Railway locomotive and GWR 5239 Goliath was on service train duties.
