The Hidden Semaphores of Goonbarrow and Two Level Crossings - 2026

Hidden in plain sight - A short trip out and about on the Newquay Branchline. This video is a bit of a lash up. I wanted to film a few level crossings, and had a brain wave on the move; to visit the hidden semaphores at Goonbarrow. The semaphores here are tucked away, only visible from the train, or one footpath through the woods at the southern end of the loop. Until recently, semaphores were a highly common sight across Cornwall's branchlines and mainline. As per usual, Cornwall remained 50 years behind, with mechanical signaling. That is until the winter of 2023/24, when after 120 years, some signal boxes and semaphores were phased out. The boxes at Lostwithiel, Par and Truro were closed. This leaves three final boxes, Liskeard, St Erth, and obviously, Goonbarrow. The film also features the quiet level crossings of Tregoss Moor and Coswarth.
