61306 Mayflower Powers Through Difficult Conditions: English Riviera Express - 2026

A short trip to the English Riviera for the day. This is the first English Riviera Express of 2026, hauled by LNER Thompson B1, 61306 Mayflower. The English Riviera Express left Crewe in the early hours of the morning, and ran diesel hauled to Taunton, where the B1 took over to Kingswear. Upon arrival into Kingswear, 61306 shunted the consist into the sidings, and headed to Churston for a spin on the turntable and a service; last year, this was done at Paignton Queens Park. Resident Dartmouth Steam Railway locomotive and GWR Manor Class, 7827 Lydham Manor, was on service train duties. The B1 would encounter difficulties during the day; an injector issue on the outbound leg resulted in a voluntary emergency stop in the loop at Dawlish Warren to resolve the issue. I would encounter difficulties during the day; the rain arrived ahead of schedule, and was diabolical! Better luck next time.
