The incidence of endometrial cancer increases with the use of estrogen alone, but the incidence does not increase with the use of progesterone. Recent studies in Europe and the United States have reported that, if the risk of breast cancer in those not using HRT is set at 1, those who have used HRT for five years or more have a slightly increased risk of 1.26. However, a study of Japanese women has reported that the risk is actually lower in those who used HRT compared to those not using HRT, and that there is at least no clear increase in risk.
